Debates Timing

Timing of the Debates

Each of the Debates will follow a similar format consisting of five stages - scoping, research, conversation, deciding and reporting.

Approximate timing for each stage

The scoping stage will draw in national experts and regional decision makers to explore each issue in detail. The outcome from this stage will be a clearer understanding of the trends and developments which might affect the South West economy over the next ten years, and a list the specific questions that need to be explored.

The research stage will be informed by the scoping stage and will help to provide a deeper understanding of the trends and developments in the debate, and their consequences on the South West economy.

The conversation stage will take place throughout much of the nine months and will involve partners from across the region discussing issues and feeding ideas back to the lead partners. One way in which this may take place is through an electronic discussion forum which is currently being explored.

The deciding stage will involve reviewing the evidence and options and establishing consensus decisions that set out the strategic direction for the economy.

The reporting stage will present the above to key stakeholders and partners and will provide a clear direction for the South West economy and the RES. It is planned that each debate will culminate in a high-profile event and an authoritative report.
